Dorothy Lee

Dorothy Lee - Photo by Charlotte Elizabeth PhotographyOn May 18th at 1:43 PM we welcomed the newest member of our family – Dorothy Lee Macatol.  She weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 oz., had curly hair and her father’s nose.  We cried tears of joy and relief as we counted ten fingers and ten toes.

Dorothy is named after my husband’s maternal grandmother and my father whose middle name is also Lee.  As much as Dorothy is her own person she looks a lot like our older daughter and like my husband.  Perhaps she has my ears, but the genes on my husband’s side are so strong it’s hard to tell.

Just like everyone tells you, the moment she was born our hearts expanded.  So cliché and still very true.  We didn’t know how it was possible to love another child as much as we loved our first, but it just happens.  Amazing and wonderful.

Dorothy Lee ORThe c-section went as planned except I freaked out a little about the spinal.  As odd as this sounds, I didn’t think about the surgery until I got the hospital and they starting prepping me.  Then it was like, “Oh yeah, they are going to be cutting me open in a few minutes.  And to that I need to have this huge shot.  That’s not ideal!”

Luckily the anesthesiologist knew before I said anything that I was nervous and he was very reassuring.  Also, since my husband is a physician they let him stay for the spinal to hold my hand.  Such a simple thing but so helpful.  Once my OB arrived and the drugs kicked in I started to calm down.  Plus, they gave me nausea medication this time so I didn’t throw up in the OR.  Bonus.

MB and DLIt’s now three weeks out for our new family of four.  We could all use more sleep, but things are going well.  Our oldest daughter is reveling in her Big Sister role and hates to see her Little Sister cry.  I’m still in some pain from the surgery but getting a little better each day.  My husband has been doing an excellent job caring for all his girls.

I’m back to work almost full time.  While I’m not sure it’s the best decision, it’s the right one for me now.  Thank you for your patience with delayed responses, etc.  Feel free to reach out if you feel I’ve missed your email or voice mail.  In bag news, the samples arrived exactly a week after Dorothy.  Nice!  More updates on them this week.
